Mocking Bird
Nora Jane Struthers

Mocking bird sitting in a tree
Working out a new melody
Each movement, a new love note, an old heart
Every morning, a brand new tune
All the other birds are always fooled
But he's just singing for his heart
It's not the sun streaming through my blinds
I hear my mocking bird before I open my eyes
Singing in the dawn
He's been waiting so patiently
His music sure sounds like love to me
I hope one day he is just up and gone
He doesn't want to be a bear
That's why he takes more than his share
He casts his lines into the sky above
The lady birds are hard to please
They are fancy shift like a summer breeze
He worries that he will never find his love
Like the mocking bird
I take all the tunes I've hear along the way
I try to fill myself up with song
Because it won't matter what I say
I know I just have to play
This silver heart's been singing since she was born
Mocking bird sitting in a tree
Working out a new melody
Each movement, a new love note, an old heart
Every morning, a brand new tune
All the other birds are always fooled
But he's just singing for his heart
